主人公・天童勇樹(武子直輝)は元小学校教師のフリーター。 職を求めて、学生時代の同級生であり議員秘書を務める花野 薫(深澤大河)を訪ねたところ「きらめき新党」の古剛栄進(横山真史)に見いだされ、あれよあれよと市長選挙に出馬することになる。 市長選には、現政権を握る「未来自由党」のサラブレッドである白峰誠二(一ノ瀬 竜)や、カリスマ経営者で話題性のある「天晴党」(あっぱれとう)の牧 瑛士(稲垣成弥)、ネットでの広報活動で若者中心に知名度を広げていく「FPP(Free Politics Party)」のキース・篠宮(武藤賢人)といった、強力で個性豊かなライバルたちが出馬。 政治家に必要とされる“三つのバン”、「地盤」「看板」「鞄」のどれ一つとして物足りない勇樹は、果たして市民の心をつかみ、市長に当選することができるのか？ 言葉や情報を駆使し、人々と交流を重ねながら、新光市の理想の未来を目指して鎬を削る…
