雷玄是唐代天平府知府。 在他履行職責的過程中，他遇到了一群他認為是宗教騙子，他們聲稱擁有神聖的魔法力量，並索要金錢來安撫他們的神靈。 儘管他持懷疑態度，雷軒假裝擁有自己的力量來打擊那些似乎擁有真正力量的騙子。 經過一番鬥智斗勇，雷玄揭穿了騙子的真面目，他們所謂的神通大部分都是詭計，但即使被揭穿，騙子們仍然聲稱他們的一些力量是真實的，並且來自神論 .
