Buddhist Sister Chan Khong Cao, who worked closely with Thich Nat Hanh for more than 30 years, explains that the word perception is very important in Buddhism. When you look at her, she says, you perceive her as an image in your head, which is not her reality. Buddha said that when you perceive, it is always partial perception; the reality of the person is much deeper. When we perceive wrongly, we suffer and cause suffering. We must learn to practice peace in order to be still and listen deeply to the other person, and discover the parts hidden from us. For her, Buddhism is the art of living your life deeply and working to see things with deep understanding. Therese Fitzgerald interviews Sister Chan Khong Cao for Omega Presents.
