Wishing to unravel the reasons his grandfather never spoke about Hiroshima later in his life, Hersey's grandson Cannon Hersey, an artist, visits Hiroshima. Meeting people involved in the telling of "Hiroshima" and other victims, Cannon searches for the secrets his grandfather had locked in his heart, shares memories of the tragedy, and considers the significance of telling these stories.
