Alfred de Montesquiou, an AP war correspondent and journalist for Paris Match, takes the viewer on a detailed tour of the world's first great trade route, the Silk Road. Starting with a single episode in Venice, Italy, the birthplace of Marco Polo and the place from which he familiarized Western culture with the wonders he encountered on this route, we are led through the countries, kingdoms and empires (both past and present) whose culture was influenced by their connections to both East and West due to the passage of this route. Through interviews with locals, our guide introduces us to both an historical and a modern perspective on these regions, cultures and populations.
