La police rurale de Lusagne, fidèle aux traditions d’hospitalité de la montagne, s’apprête à accueillir l’équipe de l’association Totem.
Cette association spécialisée dans la réfection de vieux bâtiments du monde rural, fait appel à des détenus en fin de peine, et a pour mission de les préparer à leur réinsertion.
A l’issue de la première journée, deux membres de l’équipe manquent à l’appel ; très vite, Alex Hugo remonte la piste des fugitifs, et retrouve le corps inanimé de l’un d’entre eux, dans un torrent, le crâne fracassé; le second en revanche, qui venait de purger un lourde peine reste introuvable…
