不思議な雰囲気を持つオレンジ色のオス猫を拾った小学生の草凪吐夢は、その猫に“みかん”と名付けて家で飼うことにしたが、ある晩、台所で晩酌しながら人間の言葉で独り言をのたまっているみかんを目撃してしまう。 なんと、みかんは、昔飼われていた“じいさん”との生活の中で、いつしか言葉が喋れるようになってしまった変わり種の猫だった。 おまけに、みかんは２本の足で歩けるわ器用に字や絵まで描けるわと、ほとほと猫ばなれしたヤツ。 その秘密を知っているのは、吐夢と彼の両親だけ。そんな彼らを中心にした、笑いあり涙ありのハートウォーミング・ストーリー。
