Fils du Petit Dauphin (mort en 1712), petit-fils du Grand Dauphin (mort en 1711) et arrière-petit-fils de Louis XIV, il lui succède sous la régence de Philippe d'Orléans, neveu du roi défunt, jusqu'à sa majorité en 1723. Sacré à Reims le 25 octobre 1722. Mort de variole.
