Le jeune chef Yao est expulsé de sa tribu après la mort de son père. L'intrigant Zakoro devient le nouveau chef de la tribu. La petite amie de Yao, Elloa, se détourne également de lui. Livré à lui-même, Yao erre dans la jungle africaine, vit des aventures passionnantes et fait enfin la connaissance de la fille d'un roi puissant, qu'il épouse après diverses épreuves. Enfin, il retourne dans sa tribu, où il renverse Zakoro et devient pourtant chef.
