这部电视剧讲述了上世纪80年代经历恢复高考后一群年轻人的爱情故事，围绕着徐天（吴秀波饰）、何佳（海清饰）、吴晴（吴越饰）、梅果（董洁饰）等几名大学生的感情纠葛展开。1977年冬天，徐天和费兵前往县城报名，参加文革后第一次高考。他们是陕西西安插队知青，是关系非常铁的哥们。徐天聪明绝顶，记忆力惊人，出身干部家庭的费兵对他非常佩服。半路上，徐天突然想起忘带公社介绍信，情急之下居然私刻公章，伪造介绍信。虽然顺利报名，却埋下了巨大隐忧。
