本剧讲述了一个在十年的岁月中自由与禁锢、禁欲与放纵、自尊与自卑、虚伪与正直、反抗与妥协、雄心与野心等相互纠葛、相互冲突而又相互转化的道德情感故事来探讨当今社会物欲横流与精神危机的沉重话题。1996年夏，袁浩东、赵家乐、郭洋港三位大学同窗分别数年后相聚一起创业，借来的本钱被骗光，三个人租下一间小平房，开始了四处找工作的日子……
