一天，裱画师尚雨霖照常按自己的生活节奏忙着自己的店里的活，突然一阵剧痛让他失去：知觉……在医院醒来时发现他已患绝症将不久人世。临终前他将自己人生未了的一桩事情嘱托给自己的大儿子尚斌——找到一位叫陆衡的顾客，他二十年前将一副画存放在裱画店至今未取，尚斌走上了一条艰难的寻找之路，为此他失去了心爱的女人简丹，失去了喜欢的工作，更险些与自己的亲兄弟尚勇反目 ……虽然艰辛万苦，虽然失去了几乎自己拥有的一切，但尚斌在寻找画主人的同时，寻找到了人们久违的一种价值——诚信和得到了一个人的尊严。
