一流の殺し屋が余生を穏やかに過ごすために、血塗られた過去を隠し“源さん”を名乗って秘境の温泉旅館「椿屋」で働くこととなる。そこで源さんの周囲に日々起こるさまざまな人間ドラマを描く。 原作の「椿屋」のモデルとなった温泉旅館は福島県会津若松市内の東山温泉にある老舗の和風旅館「向瀧」。 外観等そのまま漫画に描かれている。尚、この旅館には作品中に書かれているような露天風呂は無く、すべて屋内の内風呂のみである。
