Robert Dougall

News broadcaster. Dougall joined the BBC at 19 and became announcer for BBC Empire Service on his 21st birthday. He began his television career in 1951 as one of the three voice-over headline newsreaders, before appearing on screen in 1955. He retired in 1973 shortly after the publication of his best-selling autobiography In and Out of the Box. He was also president of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds.
