Adam Michael Goldstein, known professionally as DJ AM, began deejaying in clubs in Los Angeles and joined the band Crazy Town in 1999. He left the group in 2001 and focused on a career as a solo DJ. After he began dating Nicole Richie in 2003 his career skyrocketed.
