James Dean was born in Marion, Indiana. He moved to New York to pursue his dream of acting. His early film efforts were strictly small roles, and had major roles in only three movies before his death on September 30, 1955, when his Porsche Spyder race car collided with another car on the road near Cholame, California, which killed him almost instantly. His very brief career transformed him into a cult object of apparently timeless fascination.
