El filósofo Walter Benjamin (1892-1940), un judío alemán, huye de Alemania en 1932, durante la confusión que precedió al ascenso definitivo al poder de Adolf Hitler. El 26 de septiembre de 1940, muere en Portbou, un pequeño pueblo de la frontera franco-española. El inexplicable final de un hombre que logró evitar un horrible destino solo para enfrentarse a la muerte en circunstancias muy misteriosas.
