Margaret vive e lavora a New York, ma è canadese e, quando gli agenti dell'immigrazione si presentano con un foglio di via, per risolvere la difficile situazione si inventa un presunto fidanzamento proprio con il suo sfortunato dipendente.

Margaret, citadine jusqu'au bout des ongles et habituée à tout contrôler, se retrouve vite dans des situations qu'elle ne maîtrise plus... Alors que les préparatifs du mariage avancent et qu'un officier de l'immigration les poursuit, Margaret et Andrew ont de plus en plus de mal et de moins en moins envie de respecter le plan prévu...

He agrees to participate in the charade, but with a few conditions of his own. The unlikely couple heads to Alaska to meet his quirky family and the always-in-control city girl finds herself in one comedic fish-out-of-water situation after another. With an impromptu wedding in the works and an immigration official on their tails, Margaret and Andrew reluctantly vow to stick to the plan despite the precarious consequences.
