However, not wanting to give up and persisting the man attempts to become a professional at age thirty five. The motivational story of a man going up against the rules and challenging himself despite the system and the establishment is cast with multiple stars of contemporary Japanese cinema.
濑川晶司（松田龙平 饰）人生唯一赢得赞赏的才华，便是将棋。因此他加入国家级职业棋士培育机构「奖励会」，然而奖励会规定在26岁前须升上四段，否则终生不得成为职业棋士。未顺利升级的他只好落寞退出，即使如此，家人与朋友仍鼓励他下棋，以业余之姿再度叱咤棋坛，究竟他能不能开创先例，成为业余转职业的史上第一人呢？
