The Iron Giant

Un ragazzo fa amicizia con un grande robot che ha un'insaziabile fame di metallo, ma la loro amicizia è minacciata da un piano del governo.

En 1957, en la pequeña localidad de Rockwell, alguien ha visto cómo un enorme hombre metálico caía al mar. Un imaginativo niño descubre que se trata de un robot gigante, cuyo apetito de metal es insaciable. Entre ambos nace una fuerte amistad, pero el gobierno envía a un agente para investigar los hechos. El niño esconde a su nuevo compañero en la chatarrería de un amigo. Pero los habitantes del pueblo comienzan a sentirse aterrados porque creen que es una nueva amenaza en plena Guerra Fría.

Enfant rêveur et solitaire, Hogarth Hughes voit son quotidien bouleversé par sa rencontre avec un robot d’acier haut de 30 mètres piégé par les câbles haute tension qui bordent sa maison. Prenant son courage à deux mains, il s’approche de ce colosse à l’allure imposante pour faire connaissance. Le garçon apprend alors que celui-ci vient d’une planète lointaine. Contre toute attente, ces deux êtres que tout oppose vont se lier d’amitié. Pourtant, la taille difficilement dissimulable de ce nouveau venu attire l’attention du gouvernement qui, dès lors, mettra tout en œuvre pour le capturer...

During the Cold War shortly after the Soviet Union launches ''Sputnik 1'' in October 1957, an object from space crashes in the ocean just off the coast of Maine, then enters the forest near the town of Rockwell. Nine-year-old Hogarth Hughes investigates and finds a giant robot attempting to eat the transmission lines of an electrical substation. Hogarth eventually befriends the Giant, finding it docile and curious. When it eats railroad tracks in the path of an oncoming train, the train collides with it and derails, and Hogarth leads the Giant away from the scene, discovering that it can self-repair. While there, Hogarth shows the Giant comic books of the adventures of Superman.
