会社経営者の播磨和昌 と妻の薫子 は2人の子供を授かるが、現在は別居している。ある日、娘の瑞穂がプールで溺れて意識不明になり、医師に脳死と診断される。臓器提供を希望するか、このまま死を待つかの選択を迫られる夫婦は、悩んだ末に臓器提供を決意するが、薫子が一瞬だけ瑞穂の手が動いたのを見てそれを撤回する。和昌の会社が開発した最先端技術を駆使した延命治療が始まり、彼女は眠ったまま成長していくが……。
