Pro Kilo Fracht kann Charter-Pilot Steve Collins 20 Dollar verlangen - also geht er davon aus, daß er per Nachnahme 1150 Dollar kassieren wird. Seine "Fracht" heißt Joan Winfield: Die reiche Erbin will gerade mit einem Musiker durchbrennen, als Steve sie kurzerhand kidnappt, um sie postwendend ihrem wütenden Papa zuzustellen. Doch dann entdeckt Joan einen Fallschirm.

Pilot Steve Collins (James Cagney) agrees to help bandleader Alan Brice (Jack Carson) and heiress Joan Winfield (Bette Davis) elope. Steve then contacts her father Lucius (Eugene Pallette), offering to prevent the marriage and deliver her to him in return for enough money to get out of debt.
