Shmuel is the deuteragonist in the novel, 'The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas' as well as its movie adaptation. He is nine years old and is born on April 15, 1934, which happens to be also Bruno's birthday too. Shmuel is short for his age due to stress and malnutrition and has his hair shaved with 'large caramel colored eyes'. He is extremely knowledgeable for his age but maintains a quiet dignity.
