西条命（斋藤工 饰）在美国时期的恩师手冢义富（草刈正雄 饰）－小儿外科医生的世界的权威，初次登场，两人将会有激烈地冲突对立。实践著「无限树形图」的理论，也就是「当你救活了这个人，等同是解救了更多人」的小儿外科医生命在美国获得最优秀年轻医生奖．有一天，命为陷入为呼吸困难的中学生萩尾萌绘做急救处置，原因是妊娠高血压症，萌绘转入的医院是命的恩师小儿外科权威手冢义富的医院。术後，命被邀请在手冢医院工作，答应的条件是同意担任萌绘的主治医师。实际是挂念著萌画的症状。
