A great white shark relentlessly stalks three kayakers out on a remote island. As they wait for help to arrive, the tide starts to rise, forcing them back into the deadly waters. Now the race is on as shark threatens to pick them off on the way back to the mainland.

Um ein ausgefallenes Fotoshooting zu verwirklichen, planen die drei Freunde Sarah, Jason und Megan einen Kajakausflug zu einer kleinen, neu im Meer entstandenen Felseninsel vor der Küste der Florida Keys. Doch kaum sind sie auf dem abgelegenen Eiland angekommen, wird Jason von einem riesigen weißen Hai attackiert und getötet. Nachdem Sarah noch ihren Dad (Michael Madsen) mit einem letzten Anruf informieren kann, gibt der Akku ihres Handys den Geist auf und die beiden Frauen sind auf sich allein gestellt. Allmählich beginnt die steigende Flut den Felsen zu überspülen und bringt die tödliche Gefahr näher heran. Notgedrungen machen sie sich auf den Weg zurück zum Festland. Doch der Weg ist weit und die kleinen Kajaks bieten keinen Schutz vor den mörderischen Kiefern des riesigen Jägers.

En stor vithaj jagar obevekligt tre kajakare till en avlägsen ö. Medan de väntar på hjälp, börjar tidvattnet stiga och tvingar tillbaka dem ut i havet.
