Three prisoners are discharged from jail: Stefano Luprandi, a surgeon accused of murdering a patient by doing an unauthorized surgery, Giuseppe Rasi, unjustly processed for robbery, and Franco Cesari, a thief. Once released, Stefano loses all confidence in himself: despite the support of his loving wife, he wants to leave her. But then his wife suffers a serious car accident and he must save her and regains confidence in life. Giuseppe, who has always declared he is innocent, is released early for good behavior, but finds misunderstanding everywhere. A young nurse comes to the rescue and with her love and confidence saves him from depression. Francos destiny wont be as happy as the other two when he tries to recover the gold he stole.
