Brahim is a lawyer involved in the national movement which is responsible for finding his brother, leader of the guerrillas to convince him to lay down arms, a necessary condition for negotiations with the French. François is an ethnologist convinced by Pierre Mendes France's policy of changing his method and paving the way for peace. It is in Redeyef, a small mining village in the south-west of Tunisia, that everything happens.
