Mewtwo, dont le cœur a été adouci par l'exemple désintéressé de l'humain Sacha Ketchum dans sa région natale de Kanto, s'est rendu dans la région occidentale de Johto à la recherche d'un endroit inaccessible aux regards indiscrets et aux jugements sévères des humains pour le bien de sa bande de Pokémon clonés, dont Mewtwo ne se préoccupe que du bien-être. Il finit par trouver la cachette idéale : une énorme montagne nommée Mont Quena, entourée de falaises abruptes pratiquement impossibles à escalader, mais au sommet de laquelle se trouvent une forêt et un lac d'eau douce qui constituent une quasi-utopie pour tous les Pokémon Insecte qui y vivent. Ils s'installent donc au sommet du Mont Quena et commencent une nouvelle vie, en toute sécurité, sous la surveillance de Mewtwo, qui estime qu'ils n'ont pas leur place dans ce monde puisqu'ils n'y sont pas nés (il semble particulièrement proche des clones Pikachu et Miaouss, ce qui reflète peut-être l'importance de leurs gabarits dans son changement d'avis).

Und, wie es der Zufall so will, halten sich auch Ash, Pikachu und ihre Freunde gerade dort auf. Schnell konfrontiert Giovanni Mewtu mit einer qualvollen Herausvorderung; Unterwerfe Dich meiner menschlichen Autorität, oder stehe fest zu Dir selbst und opfere die Super-Klone. Ein fast aussichtsloser Kampf entbrennt. Doch plötzlich naht unerwartete Hilfe... und legt Mewtus Schicksal in Ashs Hände!

Quena and begin a new, safe life, with Mewtwo watching over as their guardian, as he feels they cannot belong in the world as they were not born in it (he seems particularly close to the Pikachu and Meowth clones, possibly reflecting how important their templates were in his change of heart).
