偏屈で無口な変わり者・小戸川。
個人タクシーの運転手として街を流しながらも、なるべく他人と関わらないように、平凡な日々を過ごしていた。
ところが、ある日、思い掛けず、 『練馬区女子高生失踪事件』に巻き込まれてしまう。
さらに、小戸川の周囲からは、「一人暮らしの部屋から話し声が聞こえた」など、不穏な証言も。
事件は、億を超える巨額 の金、目的不明の半グレ集団、売り出し中のアイドル、カリスマ化されていく大学生など、様々な事物が絡み、 収拾不可能なほど混沌としていく。
それでも、ある計画の実行をきっかけに、事態は一気に収束。一連の出来事は、多くの悲しみや不条理をはらみながら、いったんの結末を見た。……かに思われた。
事件後、かかわっていた人々が、口々に証言する。
見えていた出来事の裏の裏。本当はそこで、何が起きていたのか…を。
それらを繋ぎ合わせることで浮かび上がってくる、事件の新たな輪郭。
