In a turbulent time for France and for himself, cardinal Mazarin demands that Queen Anne share with him the names of four friends who successfully helped her in the fight against cardinal Richelieu. The Queen gives the name of d'artagnan, Lieutenant of the Royal Musketeers. Mazarin summons him to his presence, and orders him to find Athos, Porthos, and Aramis, and at the same time try to enlist them in his service. But d'artagnan only half succeeds in carrying out the Commission: while Porthos, far from politics, joins him, Athos and Aramis find themselves on the other side of the barricades — they fully support the hostile cardinal Fronde. In this way, former friends turn out to be enemies and their paths will cross much sooner than they might have expected...
