Dolce e gentile popolo di tessitori, gli Iolph da secoli passano il tempo a realizzare i loro tradizionali costumi nel loro idilliaco e isolato villaggio. In questa tribù perennemente giovane vive anche Maquia, amata da tutti ma segnata dalla perdita e dalla solitudine. La pace del posto è però messa in pericolo quando un giorno arrivano dei soldati a cavallo di draghi mandati dal re di Mesate.

Uma menina imortal e um menino normal conhecem-se e tornam-se amigos, compartilhando um vínculo que dura ao longo dos anos.

Maquia est une jeune fille qui vient d'une lignée un peu particulière : tous les membres de sa famille cessent de vieillir dès lors qu'ils atteignent leur adolescence. Orpheline, elle vit paisiblement – bien qu'un peu dans la solitude – au sein d'un clan où tout le monde est comme elle. Cependant, un jour, une armée envahit son village, bien décidé à découvrir le secret de l'immortalité des personnes de son espèce. Alors que plusieurs de ses amis sont capturés, Maquia décide de partir à leur recherche ; en chemin, elle va croiser la route de Erial, un jeune garçon qui a perdu ses parents et qui, lui, vieillit.

Das Waisenmädchen Maquia lebt in Iorph. Dieses Land befindet sich jenseits der Welt der Menschen. Sie ist mit einer Jugend gesegnet, die lang anhält. Seit Jahrhunderten bereits verwebt ihre Sippe tägliche Ereignisse in einem mysteriösen Tuch, dem Hibiol. Eine Armee aus Mesate dringt gewaltsam in Iorph ein, um an das langlebige Blut der Stadt zu kommen, was das idyllische Leben der harmonischen Gemeinschaft ins Wanken bringt.

La gente de Iorph vive lejos del mundo de los hombres, pasando sus días tejiendo Hibiol, una tela especial que sirve como crónica escrita del paso del tiempo. Envejecen mucho más lentamente que los hombres y tienen la capacidad de vivir cientos de años. Son legendarios para los forasteros, que los han apodado "el Clan de los Separados".

Maquia is a member of a special race called the Iorph who can live for hundreds of years. However, Maquia has always felt lonely despite being surrounded by her people, as she was orphaned from a young age. She daydreams about the outside world, but dares not travel from her home due to the warnings of the clan's chief. One day the kingdom of Mezarte invades her homeland. They already have what is left of the giant dragons, the Renato, under their control, and now their king wishes to add the immortality to his bloodline. They ravage the Iorph homeland and kill most of its inhabitants. Caught in the midst of the attack, Maquia is carried off by one of the Renato. It soon dies, and she is left deserted in a forest, now truly alone save for the cries of a single baby off in the distance. Maquia finds the baby in a destroyed village and decides to raise him as her own, naming him Ariel. Although she knows nothing of the human world, how to raise a child that ages much faster than her.
