La recette de Banania est due à Pierre Lardet, à l'occasion d'un voyage au Nicaragua. A la veille de la Première Guerre mondiale, il lance la fabrication de sa poudre chocolatée. Très vite, Banania va forger son identité sur l'image d'un Tirailleur sénégalais, mais aussi d'un slogan, Y'a bon Banania.
