An escaped maniac and infanticide, who is being sought by the police of a small town, wanders in search of food, into a shoe-maker's shop in which is the cobbler's little daughter, alone. The child offers him some food and the maniac struggles with himself to overcome his desire to kill the little one serenely unconscious of his upraised knife.
