Kedma

Mai 1948, à deux semaines de la fin du Mandat des Britanniques en Palestine, Juifs et Arabes s'affrontent. L'Etat israélien n'est pas encore une réalité. Un vieux cargo rouillé, le Kedma, s'apprête à déverser de nouveaux immigrants, rescapés de la Shoah, sur le territoire. Mais les Britanniques s'opposent à leur venue, et tentent de les arrêter. Les combattants d'une unité du Palmach, l'armée secrète juive, emmenée par Moussa, s'interposent. Le groupe se disperse, une partie s'échappe, accompagnée des soldats du Palmach. Ils arrivent dans un campement improvisé, non loin de Jérusalem assiégée. Mais la route est encore longue et l'hostilité arabe forte. Contraints de prendre les armes pour prêter main forte aux combattants juifs, les immigrants engagent une bataille sanglante contre les habitants d'un village arabe fortifié.

"Kedma - Verso oriente" è un film diretto da Amos Gitai che narra una tragedia storica, ambientata durante l'inizio della Guerra arabo-israeliana del 1948: un gruppo di profughi scappa dall'Europa per sfuggire alla persecuzione degli ebrei con l'aiuto del Palmach.

Set seven days before the creation of the state of Israel in May 1948, a small rusted ship, with a group of concentration camp survivors from Shoah, is received at the new territory with open hostility. They are met by British troops, who are shooting at them, and are trying to forbid them from disembarking. As well, the survivors are met with guns blasts being shot by the Jewish secret army, who has come to help them. Only a small group actually succeeds in landing on the small beach, where they are able to experience their first hours in Palestine. Tired and hungry, the hopeful emigrants have then to follow the Jewish forces to immediately take up arms against the Arabs. Unspoken truths from both sides explode in the violent and tragic conflict.

Im Mai 1948 erreicht das Frachtschiff Kedma die Küste des britischen Mandatsgebiets Palästina, kurz vor Ausrufung des unabhängigen Staates Israel. An Bord sind mehrere hundert jüdische Holocaust-Überlebende aus verschiedenen Ländern Europas. Britische Soldaten wollen sie daran hindern, ins Land zu kommen. Der Film zeigt das Schicksal einer Gruppe Einwanderer, die den Soldaten entkommen konnten.
