Уходит в рейс парусный корвет «Витязь», команде которого предстоит выдержать суровые испытания. Не складываются отношения у матросов с заменившим старшего офицера тупым и бездушным бароном фон Бергом. Своим поведением он вызывает ненависть всего экипажа, которая перерастает в бунт, когда он отдает приказ утопить любимца всей команды — маленького щенка. Все это, а также шторм в Тихом океане и другие опасные приключения еще больше сплачивают людей и делают их еще сильнее и отважнее.
