"Hedd Wyn" is the true story of a young poet Ellis Evans, and his life and his burning ambition to win a Bardic Chair at the National Eisteddfod. Evans, who wrote under the bardic name of "Hedd Wyn", lived on the family farm near Trawsfynydd in Merionethshire. He submitted his work to the Birkenhead Eisteddfod of 1917, but by July 1917 Evans was serving with the Royal Welsh Fusiliers at Ieper in Belgium. The film won the Royal Television Society's Award for Best Single Drama and BAFTA Cymru Awards in several categories; and was the first Welsh language film nominated for an Academy Award.
