Adolescent Gaston Dubois has a problem. He is scheduled to play in a year end violin recital on Sunday afternoon, but he has just found out that a must win hockey match which was originally scheduled for Monday has now been moved to the same time as the recital. His hockey teammates believe they don't have a chance if Gaston doesn't play in the game. With his father on his side, Gaston figures that he can play in the game, and after the game rush to the recital and play in the last spot on the program. Gaston's mother believes his plan wouldn't allow him to play well in the recital - which is especially important since Gaston's not often seen grandfather will be in attendance - and forbids him to play in the hockey game. When Sunday rolls around, Gaston's grandfather takes Gaston's happiness and fulfilling Gaston's competing commitments into his own hands.
