신상옥 감독의 '내시'를 리메이크한 작품이지만 정작 이두용 감독은 신상옥의 원작을 보지 않고 자신의 스타일로 연출했다고 한다. '피막', '여인잔혹사 물레야 물레야'의 연장선에서 유교적 억압에 희생되는 여인과 내시의 이야기를 박진감 넘치는 사극으로 완성했다.
