Eine Reise in die Volksrepublik Polen, Annelie Thorndikes Heimatstadt Klützow und das nahe Stargard. Von hier aus wird Thorndikes Lebensweg erzählt, der sie durch ihre Flucht und Vertreibung in eine neue Heimat in Penzlin führt, wo sie nach dem Krieg Lehrerin wird und den russischen Offizier Wassili trifft, der Mut und Lebenskraft schenkt. Dort wird sie Regisseurin und lernt bei den Dreharbeiten zur DEFA schließlich ihren Mann Andrew kennen.
