Shalu (Preity Zinta) is a fun loving young woman living with her mother, Sarita (Rekha), and older sister, Nimmi (Mahima Chaudhry). Unknown to Shalu and Nimmi, they are half-sisters. Shalu is the daughter of Sarita's late husband Shekar and the woman with whom he had an affair. Fatally wounded in a car accident with Shalu's biological mother, Shekar begged Sarita to raise Shalu as her own.

Há vinte anos, Sarita prometeu criar a filha de seu marido (Shalu) juntamente com sua própria filha (Nimmi). As meninas crescem como melhores amigas, mas Sarita nunca conseguiu perdoar Shalu por suas origens. A situação piora quando ela percebe que Shalu está se aproximando do homem do qual Nimmi também está apaixonada.

Some twenty years ago Sarita promised to raise her husband's love child (Shalu) together with their own daughter (Nimmi). The girls grow up as the best of friends but Sarita has never been able to forgive Shalu her background. It doesn't make it better when she sees Shalu getting close to the man Nimmi is also in love with.
