Na lavičce v parku vypráví jedna klepna druhé příběh mladého muže, který právě prošel okolo. Jeho matka Helena byla před lety krásnou a nadanou studentkou zpěvu. Platonicky ji miloval spolužák Vilém, syn obchodníka se šněrovačkami. Po absolventském večírku konzervatoře svedl Helenu lehkomyslný Martin. Druhý den odjel do Paříže a nepodával o sobě zprávy.
