嫣然（林青霞 饰）和巧眉（吕秀菱 饰）一对情同手足的姐妹，一场意外中，嫣然的失误导致巧眉从秋千上摔下来，损伤了视神经，就此失明。面对着再也无法看见光明的妹妹，嫣然的心中充满了愧疚和痛苦。 上大学后，嫣然结识了名为凌康（刘文正 饰）的男子，两人很快就坠入了情网。嫣然将凌康带回家中做客，哪知道娴静乖巧的巧眉吸引了凌康的注意，巧眉似乎亦被凌康的男子气概所吸引，目睹这一切的嫣然选择了退出。之后，在图书馆工作的嫣然认识了常常来借书的安骋远（云中岳 饰），两人渐渐走到了一起。几场误会的发生让巧眉知道，自己不能再流连于往昔的痛苦之中，应该凭借努力，像一个正常人一样生活。
