Na aldeia de Bostofrio, em Trás-os-Montes, o realizador Paulo Carneiro procura chegar a um retrato do avô, que não conheceu e que nunca perfilhou o seu pai, perguntando, ouvindo e puxando pelas memórias dos seus conterrâneos. Essa personagem “ausente”, o avô, nunca se materializa — pois este não é um filme “sobre o avô”, é um filme sobre um homem à procura de uma imagem para o seu avô.
