John is not very good at his job, as he often has trouble trying to pair up the shoes, much to his Manager's annoyance and frustration. Beryl also has a crush on George, who is too naive to notice, until Chambermaid Tonie Forde puts George into the picture. During an altercation with the chief, George lets on that he can sing. Playing his banjo ukulele he entertains his fellow workers.
