Why are so many gay men so obsessed with masculinity? And what influence does this have on those who do not comply with this ideal? In the documentary film Acting Straight, filmmakers Willem Timmers and Tofik Dibi take a close look at their own experiences of trying to fit into these masculine ideals and at those of other gay men. Where some consciously distance themselves from the strict expectations, others seem to suffer from the obsession. Most importantly, Acting Straight exposes an uncomfortable truth: Although Pride may be their motto, it's the fear of not being masculine enough that has many gays in its grip.
