1948年，东北，国民党残部边撤离边计划炸毁鞍钢厂区。危机时刻，“战斗英雄”赵铁池（刘烨 饰）带领共产党部队直冲腹地，殊死搏斗，摧毁了敌人的阴谋。赵铁池化身“钢铁战士”与工程师孙雪飞（韩雪 饰）、老工人孟泰（林永健 饰）、总经理程时勋（张国强 饰）一同投身复工复产。然而，高炉已成铁坨，厂区如同废墟，专家一致看衰，特务暗中观察，前线战况吃紧，时间日益迫近……第一炉钢似乎成了一个不可能完成的任务……
