While on his deathbed, rancher Larry Harlan begs his partner Quinton "Squint" Taylor to locate and protect his daughter Marion. Squint journeys to Kansas City, searching for Marion, but fails to find her. On the train trip home, Squint overhears two men plotting to appropriate Squint and Harlan's land and correctly surmises that the young woman seated with them is Marion.
