I Am Legend is a 1954 post-apocalyptic horror novel by American writer Richard Matheson that has been adapted into multiple films.
When a disease turns all of humanity into the living dead, the last man on earth becomes a reluctant vampire hunter.
Lone survivor, doctor Robert Neville, struggles to create a cure for the plague that wiped out most of the human race while fighting The Family, a savage luddite death cult formed by the zombie-like infected to erase the past.
The film takes place in a post-apocalyptic Los Angeles, which is overrun by zombie-like, cannibalism humans who have degenerated into a feral subspecies as the result of a genetic infection. The film does not make clear if the virus has infected the entire world, or just a small, isolated area, but it is suggested that it is global by the inability of the hero, Renchard (Mark Dacascos), to locate radio signals or contact anyone via the Internet.
Robert Neville is a brilliant scientist left behind in a ravaged New York City as the last lone human survivor of a horrific plague. Immune, he quickly realizes that he may not be alone and that the "infected" who roam the city, may not be what they seem.
