The film takes place in a post-apocalyptic Los Angeles, which is overrun by zombie-like, cannibalism humans who have degenerated into a feral subspecies as the result of a genetic infection. The film does not make clear if the virus has infected the entire world, or just a small, isolated area, but it is suggested that it is global by the inability of the hero, Renchard (Mark Dacascos), to locate radio signals or contact anyone via the Internet.
A brilliant scientist is left behind in a ravaged New York City as the last lone human survivor of a horrific plague. Scavenging for food and shelter, with his dog by his side, Robert quickly realizes that he may not be alone and that the "infected" which roam the city, may not be what they seem. With only one remaining mission left, Robert endeavors to find a cure, even as it becomes clear that he is running out of time.
