Created in 2001 by Provisional Measure 2228-1, ANCINE – Agência Nacional do Cinema (English: National Cinema Agency) is a regulatory agency whose responsibilities include promoting, regulating and monitoring the cinema and audiovisual market in Brazil. It is a special agency, linked to the country's Ministry of Tourism, with headquarters and jurisdiction in the Federal District, Central Office in Rio de Janeiro and regional office in São Paulo. ANCINE is managed by a collegial board approved by the Brazilian Senate and composed of a CEO and three directors, all with fixed terms of office, to which five Superintendences are subordinate: Market Analysis, Economic Development, Inspection, Development and Registration, in addition to Executive, Internal Management and Financing Policies Secretariats.
