Agência Nacional do Cinema (ANCINE)

Created in 2001 by Provisional Measure 2228-1, ANCINE – the National Cinema Agency – is a regulatory agency responsible for promoting, regulating, and overseeing the film and audiovisual market in Brazil. It is a special agency, linked to the Ministry of Tourism, with headquarters and jurisdiction in the Federal District, a central office in Rio de Janeiro, and a regional office in São Paulo. ANCINE is administered by a collegiate board approved by the Senate and composed of a CEO and three directors, all with fixed terms. They are subordinate to five Superintendencies: Market Analysis, Economic Development, Oversight, Promotion, and Registration, in addition to the Executive Secretariat, Internal Management Secretariat, and Financing Policy Secretariat.
